The goal of the USJETAA Japanese Reading Group is to help advanced, beginner and intermediate level learners improve their reading skills. Each month we discuss a short reading from Aozora Bunko, a repository of public domain literature. Participants should attempt to do the reading on their own and bring questions to the group.

We gather online and read the assignment sentence by sentence to understand how the Japanese is working. Registration is free, but we always appreciate donations to support these types of programs.

You can post questions and receive the reading link early each month in the USJETAA Japanese Reading Group Facebook Group.

In September, we'll finish reading the second half of 朝飯 (Breakfast) by Shimazaki Toson. (We read the first half of this piece in August.) Shimazaki is a major figure in the Naturalism literary movement. You can also find a YouTube reading of this story to listen to while you read.

The Japanese Reading Group is meeting on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 8am JT. Not in Japan? See times listed below or find your time zone.
